OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The National Weather Service says winter storms that have dropped ice, snow and rain across the state could help bust Oklahoma's drought.

Forecasters say rain totals across the Oklahoma City metropolitan area so far this month are eight-tenths of an inch above normal, for a total of just less than 2 inches.

Forecaster Ken Gallant says the extra moisture has to help. Last year the area had just five-hundredths of an inch in precipitation for the month of January.

Gallant said since the last couple of years have been dry, it's helpful to finally have rain levels at or above normal levels.

Gallant says the state's current weather pattern won't end soon. Officials say most of this week should be dry, but more precipitation can be expected.
